The Data Vault Handbook - Concepts and Applications

HUB EXAMPLE

In this example, we’ll create a Patient Hub for a hospital’s data platform. The Patient Hub captures the unique business key for each patient, ensuring that each patient is consistently tracked across different systems within the hos- pital. The Hub stores a unique identifier (hash key) for each patient, along with metadata like the Load Date Timestamp and the Record Source.

By standardizing patient identifiers and capturing essential metadata, the Patient Hub serves as a reliable foundation for integrating and managing hospital data. 3.1.2. LINKS Links are designed to represent and manage the relationships between keys. While Hubs represent core business concepts, Links serve as the connectors that illustrate how these concepts interact with one another within the busi- ness ecosystem. Each Link contains a distinct list of relationships between business keys, providing a clear depiction of dependencies and associations in the data model.
