Development of the Business Data Modeler using Python

INTRODUCTION Down in the data pipeline, a tool was required to import, access, and manipulate the data into the database in a certain manner. That’s where the BDM tool was shaped. CASE DESCRIPTION Our client had an efficiency problem since they had to use several pieces of software for the preparation and importation of data, modeling, and lack of possibilities for parallel working and a governed, centralized place for saving and accessing the progress.

The conventional process was labor intensive with a lot of manual work involved. This manual work prevented them from performing a good data quality check and brought in the probability of human error. Moreover, for a simple search through the imported records, complicated queries were required, which makes the interaction for many business users impossible.

Last but not least, a tree view structure for the modeled data was desired, which was not achieved before the BDM tool was introduced.

The BDM tool is an all-in-one solution, developed using Python and Kivy and tailored specifically for our client which enables them to model, save, load, and manipulate data with a search and smart auto compilation.

This tool enables the user to view the data in a tree view structure so that the relationship between the modeled data is projected.

The tool could be used over the internal network only by the company domain definition and by request with two user groups defined. The so-called “Power Group” is permitted to use all the features of the application, however, the “Viewer Group” is prevented from writing to the database. The possibility to work over the network, enables the users to work simultaneously without the need of using multiple pieces of software. All together, bringing value to the business and enabling them to be much more efficient.
